Resolutionism trumine doctrine11/29/2023 This research has been important to my understanding of the Spanish Civil War as it has allowed me to fully understand America’s position and therefore other Western Country’s actions during this time. Truman did this to make America the most powerful country in the world, as the UK had been hit hard by World War 2 and a new leader of Democracy was needed by the world.This Doctrine even sent money to Greece and Turkey, which helped them rebuild their countries and economies and more importantly make them remain democratic.Īmerica’s internationalism has continued through the Doctrine even today, as things like the war on terror and the Gulf War allowed America again to remain a strong, Democratic nation fighting for whats morally right rather than what’s economically right. However, after Pearl Harbour in 1931, America was forced to take action and join the conflict, giving the first hint of Internationalism in American society.Īmerica also joined the world court and unofficially had representatives in the League of Nations, another two Internationalist triumphs and this internationalism continued to grow during WW2, when they gave support and aid to the UK as an ally and it was finally cemented when President Truman decided to create the Truman Doctrine, which was a change in foreign policy that cemented the many Internationalist things going on in the country at the time. They didn’t want to be seen supporting Communism, or the Soviet Union, who they would go to war with in the next few decades time. This was because like the UK, America was an upholder of democracy. During the Spanish Civil War, America did very little in terms of helping the Republicans in their struggle against Fascism.
